Europe in a changing climate: vulnerabilities and ways to adapt

In Europe, the risk of natural disasters is rising sharply from north to south. Southern European countries are much more vulnerable to sea level rise and already suffer from regular flash flooding. Wildfire risk increases sharply from Scandinavia to the Mediterranean by a factor 10. I will take you on a journey through Europe in a changing climate and show you its vulnerabilities and strategies to adapt.

About Wilfried ten Brinke

Wilfried ten Brinke is an independent Dutch consultant on climate change and water management. With 35 years of experience, He understands the main issues of climate change and our vulnerabilities to the consequences thereof. He started his career as a scientist studying rivers and estuaries, became a Dutch water manager, and then specialized into flood risk management and how to adapt to the consequences of climate change.

In addition to being a high-level consultant for water and environmental organizations, Wilfried is also a knowledge broker who brings the latest findings on water and climate change from the science community to the general public. His latest initiative, the ClimateChangePost, presents the impact of climate change on natural disasters for all European countries and all sectors involved. Wilfried holds a PhD in Physical Geography with an emphasis in coastal and river dynamics.
